What is Pilates on equipment and what are the benefits?
Equipment Pilates is available at the Pilates Center of York and has the following pieces of equipment , which benefit you in the following ways:
Cadillac: This raised horizontal table is topped by a four-poster canopy frame on which bars, straps and springs are attached. A tremendous variety of exercises can be performed on the Cadillac. From gentle spring assisted sit-ups to advance acrobatics. The Cadillac offer exercises for beginning, post- rehabilitation and advance exercises for all ages.
Reformer: The most popular and versatile piece of Pilates equipment, the reformer facilitates hundreds of strengthening and stretching exercises. Its carriage glides on rails, moving in response to the use of attached springs, pulleys and ropes.
Chair: Originally designed by Joe Pilates as a compact workout system for New York City apartments. Workouts enhance stability, balance and body control. The focus on upper and lower body strength and conditioning makes the Chair a great tool for all types of athletes.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN MAT AND REFORMER CLASSES?
On the mat, your body provides the resistance and the assistance for the exercises, affected only by gravity and your body weight. Reformers can offer either additional resistance or support, which allows the exercises to be easier or more challenging as desired.
HOW DO I GET STARTED IN PARTICIPATING IN A REFORMER CLASS?
It is important to learn the Pilates principles on the equipment. It is recommended for you sign up for one on one personal reformer/chair sessions. It will take 2 to 3 private sessions to acclimate you to working on the reformer and chair before you enroll in group classes.
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR TO THE SESSION?
Comfortable clothing providing ease of movement is key. You will want to be mindful to wear clothing that will allow you to move in several different positions.
WHAT SHOULD I BRING TO A SESSION?
Water is the most important!
